I was asked by a friend to read and review this true story of the escape of Sperantza and her mother from communist Romania . Under this evil regime, Christians were persecuted for their faith. I certainly don’t want to ruin the story for you, so I’ll let you read it for yourself. But let me tell you that there is a scarlet thread that runs throughout this exciting story. That scarlet thread extends from the Cross of Christ, but find victory in His resurrection. Because of the victory of Christ and His abiding presence, this is an exciting story of God working behind the scenes to protect, provide, and bring them to freedom.

Again, I don’t want to spoil the story for you. I personally could not put the book down. It was exciting, at times frightening, and inspiring. My wife and a good friend both had a chance to read it after I finished and they loved the book.

Let me commend the author for how well it is written. Sperantza is just 14 years of age in the story. She describes vividly the scenes, the colors, the smells and her feelings as the story unfolds. I felt I was right there with her on her journey. The wonder of new sights, sounds, experiences both physical and spiritual, will fill you with wonder, awe and praise.

The one thing I found lacking was the seeming abrupt end of the story when these two arrive in the USA. The story then jumps ahead to the reuniting of her family and the opportunity to return to Romania as an adult to help bring the Gospel to the nation of her birth. Maybe the reason for my sense of abruptness in how the book ends and skips ahead is that I wanted to hear more. I certainly hope Sperantza continues the story in a second book.

The great news of this true story is God is on the throne and nothing is impossible with Him. I hope you get this book, read it and get this message. Thank you, Sperantza, for sharing this wonderful story.
